Born in Italy on her parent's honeymoon, she was unexpected pregnancy. During her pregnancy, Tomi's mother, Giovanna, had no idea she was pregnant with their first child. It was definitely a surprise to both parents since neither had no clue what was going on. After finishing their honeymoon, the newlyweds moved back to Japan where Hitomi's father, Izanagi, was the CEO of Murasaki Inc. and Murasaki Assoc.---a company that helps develop new technological advances for video games and supplies fabrics for fashion designers. Since being born in Italy, it makes Hitomi half Japanese and Italian. Although loving his daughter very much, Hitomi's father is scared of letting his daughter become the CEO of both his companies from her stranger heritage.

By the time Hitomi had started fourth grade, her mother had given birth to three younger siblings. As the children started to grow, it seemed that her father had to go into work much more often. That meant her mother was left alone at the mansion to take care of the children which soon took a tole on Giovanna's health. Instead of having the servants staff help her, Giovanna wanted to raise her children by her own standards claiming, “nobody should raise a child besides the parents themselves.” After Tomi's 11^th birthday, the young brunette caught her father with another woman. Needless to say, Hitomi was hurt and angered at her father for tearing their family apart.

After Hitomi's father filed for divorced, it wasn't long before he kicked his ex wife out of the house and allowed his new lover to move in. Tomi was heartbroken by the fact she wasn't able to see her mother everyday. So, she complained to her father for weeks to let her see her mother. Tired of his daughter's complaining, he decided to allow his children to have weekly visits to see their mother. Needless to say, it was one of the few times Tomi was truly happy from all the events that occured recently towards her family. As Hitomi started high school, her father decided to enroll her in Ouran Academy because he wanted his daughter to have the best education. Half of it was also because he had to keep the family's reputation in hold as well.

Soon into her first year of high school, Tomi learned of her father's engagement to his mistress. Being outraged by the news, the young female decided she was going to move in with her mother and disown all family inheritance he father decided to give her. She wanted nothing to do with her father and her soon to be stepmother. After moving in with mother, Hitomi realized that her mother's health had drastically gone down hill after the divorce was finalized. To pull her weight of the deal, Tomi took on four jobs in hopes of paying the bills and helping her mother watch her younger siblings on the weekends. Trying to make easier for her mother in any possibly shape—although it put a lot more stress on the young female she wouldn't have it any other way.
